Ep. 46 Know Your Rocks
I love fall. I love the couple of weeks before the holidays. I love this season for a lot of reasons. One of the main reasons I love this time of year is that it feels like there’s time to REST and REFLECT. There’s time to get things done. It’s not as chaotic as the summertime.
And the other reason that I love this time of year, in addition to reflecting and reviewing, is that I start THINKING AHEAD, focusing on where I am going as I head into a new year… which for us is also a new decade. So, today is a big end of the year topic. I’ve got basically six or seven more end of the year and prepping for the new year topics and today’s is KNOWING YOUR ROCKS.
Most people that I run into are REACTIONARY. They’re not proactive with their calendar. They’re not proactive with their time. They’re not proactive in how they spend their time. They’re reactive. They’re CONSTANTLY BEHIND and running all over the place.
Often this is because they don’t know what their ROCKS are, the main things in your life that are important. What are the most important things in your life?
If you were to try to put rocks and sand in a cylinder or big jar, let’s just say you fill it first with a bunch of sand, and then you try to put the rocks in…They don’t fit. If you put the rocks in first and then fill it the rest of the way with the sand… Everything fits.
We live in this weirdly reactionary world right now and a lot of the things going on in our world can just be SAND. Hey, I’m a social media marketer too. I’m out there doing Insta stories and I’ve got a podcast and I’m doing all this stuff. And I get that it’s a little bit controversial to be talking about this yet there are people that just get lost for hours and hours and hours in sand, which are Insta stories from a bunch of people that don’t matter.
What are your rocks? They come first, my friends… What are your rocks going into 2020? For example, I really think there should only be a few. First and foremost, and this may be controversial for some of you, but first and foremost, YOU are your NUMBER ONE ROCK.
You are your number one priority. This has been said a million times by a million different people that if you do not take care of yourself, you cannot be the best mother. You cannot be the best spouse. You cannot be the best entrepreneur. You cannot be the best daughter, sister, friend, employee, and all the things that we need to be able to do, whatever it is. You cannot be the best version of yourself if you are not taking care of yourself.
Other BIG ROCKS may include your FAMILY, obviously. Your partner, spouse, lover, whoever that is, and your CHILDREN, if you have children. Your SPIRITUAL TIME can go into “you” time or that can be something separate.
Your BUSINESS is on there, whether you work for somebody else or you work for yourself, but what is your work time. Then maybe comes your A-List FRIENDS, and I know that sounds awful, but I made a list years ago of my A-List friends, my B-List friends, and then anybody who’s not in that becomes my D-List friends. You’re going to have to listen in to hear me explain the importance of this, and it is a key piece.
Now, the hard part isn’t always identifying YOUR ROCKS, the tough stuff often comes next… the point is to put them on your calendar. And then HONOR YOUR CALENDAR. Stay focused and don’t take a FREE DAY and FILL IT with 47,000 things!
That, to me, is CRAZY TOWN. And so, if you don’t know what the rocks are, I bet your time is filled with a whole bunch of bullshit.
And that brings me to the last point today. I encourage you to MAKE SPACE FOR YOUR FUTURE.
How do you make space for your future? Ask yourself, “What am I holding on to that is time to let go of?” We are not only going into a new year and a new decade. What do YOU NEED TO RELEASE in order to make space for your future? Is it a dead-end relationship? Is it a group of friends that just gossip?
Is it a part of your business that you know you need to release in order to make space for your future? Is it weight? Is it toxic thinking? Is it that you need to finally get ahold of your finances? What is it that you need to get in check? Figure it out? What are you holding onto? Then it is time to let go of it… If I know anything, I know this because I’ve literally experienced this.
WHEN I RELEASE SOMETHING out of the cylinder of my energy, SOMETHING NEW AND WONDERFUL COMES IN and it blows me away every single time.
Okay, you gotta listen to this episode, and the next several because I‘m ending this year really, really strong with some amazing episodes to help you FINISH YOUR YEAR STRONG and then absolutely kill it going into a brand new decade.
And on that note, I will see you next week, I hope everybody has an amazing weekend. Thank you so much for listening.
